Thomas Partey injury: Progress & potential return date for Arsenal midfielder

Thomas Partey remains an iNFLuential member of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side, but the midfielder now finds himself set for another spell on the sidelines.

The Ghanaian was linked with a move away from the Gunners last summer and has been frustrated with his lack of minutes this season. However, now 30 years old, Partey has already missed a month of the season with a groin injury.

The former Atletico Madrid man represented Ghana during the October international break in two friendlies but is yet to return to the pitch for his club side. Partey has made just one appearance for Arsenal since August and hasn't started in his favoured midfield role since the Community Shield.

So, what's the latest on Thomas Partey's fitness and when might he return for the Gunners?

Fortunately for Arteta, he has had the reliable and impressive Declan Rice to call on this season, lessening the impact of Partey's lack of involvement. Jorginho has also filled in a deep holding role for the Gunners, especially in the bigger matches with Rice's physicality utilised further up the pitch.

Partey has featured in just four Premier League games this season, three of which came in the first three games of the campaign when he was moonlighting as a clunky hybrid right-back.

However, Partey is expected to now be unavailable for six to eight weeks at the Emirates Stadium. The midfielder has undergone a procedure on a thigh issue and will now be in a race to return before the end of the year according to the Daily Mirror.

This injury setback will come as bad news to Arsenal boss Arteta ahead of the hectic winter fixture list. If Partey is out until 2024, then he would miss 11 matches for last season's Premier League runners-up.

While Arsenal don't have the most challenging schedule in the rest of November and December, Partey will miss the Gunners' remaining Champions League games, as well as Premier League clashes with Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa.

Partey is not the only injury concern that Arteta has at present. Martin Odegaard has missed Arsenal's last two games, Bukayo Saka picked up another knock against Sevilla and the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Jurrien Timber and Emile Smith Rowe are also sidelined.

Partey's consistent absence this season may force Arteta to dip into the transfer market this January, with the Gunners linked to Fluminense midfielder Andre and Royal Antwerp wonderkid Arthur Vermeeren.
