There's silencing doubters and then there's doing what Erling Haaland's done this season. Rory Jennings wasn't the only one who believed the Norwegian machine would struggle after switching the Bundesliga's space haven for the Premier League - hardly a land where catenaccio is rife. And although Haaland scored at an unerring rate throughout his debut campaign, there were times, especially at the start of 2023, when some genuinely questioned whether the striker was a help or hindrance to Pep Guardiola's Citizens. Such doubts arrived at a time when City were struggling to find any consistency, and it looked as if they'd relinquish their crown to the upstart Arsenal . Yeah, as if that was ever gonna happen. In typical City fashion, they clicked into gear and discovered their finest form when it mattered most. A third-straight league title followed, with Haaland smashing the single-season Premier League scoring record. Final 2022/23 Premier League Golden Boot st

Top teachers across the country say they face major hurdles in the classroom -- including staffing shortages, the pinch of low pay and addressing students' mental health -- many of which stem from closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, a recent ABC News survey found. "I think teachers are just the fabric of our communities," Rebecka Peterson, the 2023 educator of the year, told ABC News earlier this year. "And I think we have to think of big and small ways that we can wrap our arms around teachers and remind them how important they are to us individually and to us as communities." For this story, ABC News solicited responses from each state teacher of the year winner to see what they viewed as the greatest current challenge facing educators. 2023 Teacher of the Year, Rebecka Peterson. Germany orders 18 new Leopard 2 tanks to replace vehicles sent to Ukraine

A leading defense company says the German military has ordered 18 new Leopard 2 tanks to replace vehicles that were sent to Ukraine earlier this year BERLIN -- The German military has ordered 18 new Leopard 2 tanks to replace vehicles that were sent to Ukraine earlier this year, a leading defense company said Friday. Kraus-Maffei Wegmann said a contract for the Leopard 2A8 tanks was signed with the federal office for Military equipment. It didn't give financial details, but the German parliament's budget committee on Wednesday approved funding of some 525 million euros ($563 million). UK household energy bills to fall in July, bringing some relief in cost-of-living crisis

Britain’s energy regulator says the typical household energy bill will come down by around $495 a year starting in July as global wholesale energy prices decline LONDON -- Britain's energy regulator said Thursday that the typical household energy bill will come down by around 400 pounds ($495) a year starting in July as global wholesale energy prices decline. The drop brings some relief to millions of people and businesses that have struggled to cope with sharply higher electricity and gas bills over the past 18 months. But many on lower incomes are still in the throes of a lingering cost-of-living crisis, as food prices soar at the fastest rate in decades. The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, or Ofgem, said it was cutting its price cap — the maximum amount that gas suppliers can charge household s per unit of energy — to 2,074 pounds ($2,567) a year starting July 1. Since October, people have been partly shielded from gas price rises by the British government's “ene

Unable to fight now, two Ukrainian amputees walk to raise funds for a military hospital

Two Ukrainian war veterans who lost limbs in the 2014 war with Russia have taken part in a walk to raise money for medical equipment KYIV, Ukraine -- The task for the Ukrainian war veterans was clear: From different cities, Oleksandr Shevtsov and Serhii Khrapko would walk 120 kilometers (75 miles) and meet somewhere in the middle in honor of their comrades wounded in Russia’s war against their homeland. Their walk was shared on social media and they started collecting donations to raise funds to supply medical equipment to Ukraine’s main military hospital. Their walk was also an inspiration for many across the country — both the men were severely wounded in Russia's last major war with Ukraine in 2014 and had to have limbs amputated. Unable to participate in the current war, the men found another way to contribute to the fight . “I got a call from my brother in arms, Serhii Khrapko. We’ve known each other for a long time. He said: ‘Sania, our hospital needs aid,’” said Shevtsov. Sa
