The Atlanta Braves will host the Arizona Diamondbacks for game one of their three-game series this Tuesday from Truist Park.

Diamondbacks Betting Preview

Arizona moved to 52-42 after being swept by Toronto. The DBacks have came out of the All-Star break a bit sluggish, and they’ll need to rev things up for an Atlanta team that just uncharacteristically dropped a pair of Games at home. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.34 runs per Game, while batting .257, with a .326 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.41 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Corbin Carroll had multiple hits in the Game loss to the Blue Jays, and he’s leading Arizona in batting (.284), with eighteen homers and 48 RBI. Ketel Marte plated three runs in the series finale, and he’s first on the team in hits (94), with splits of .282/15/47. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had multiple hits in the final two Games of the Toronto series, and he’s posting a line of .270/15/54. Christian Walker leads the DBacks in home runs (18) and RBI (58).

Zach Davies (1-5, 6.37 ERA, 45 Ks) will get the call for Arizona. The ninth-year pitcher struggled through eleven starts during the first portion of the season, and he dropped his last outing to Pittsburgh, after allowing three runs in 5.1 innings. Davies has been vulnerable this season, as he’s allowed four runs or more in four of his last six appearances. Davies will face his stiffest test of the year this Tuesday in Atlanta.

Braves Betting Preview

Atlanta moved to 61-31 after dropping two of three to Chicago. The Braves were caught slipping on their return to action, and they’ll look to respond swiftly against Arizona. The Atlanta offense is scoring 3.83 runs per Game, while batting .270, with a .339 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.67 ERA, with a 1.26 WHIP. Ronald Acuna Jr. homered twice in the Game two loss to Chicago, and he’s leading Atlanta in batting (.333) and hits (123), with 23 HR and 58 RBI. Matt Olson hit a grand slam in the Game one victory, and he leads ATL in home runs (30) and RBI (77). Ozzie Albies plated three runs in the same contest, and he’s posting a line of .266/22/66.

Bryce Elder (7-2, 2.97 ERA, 80 Ks) will take the mound for Atlanta. The second-year pitcher had his worst outing of the season in Tampa prior to the break, allowing seven earned runs in just 3.1 innings to drop his second decision of the year. Elder has been much sharper here in 2023, as he pitched four straight quality starts prior to that outing, and he didn’t suffer his first loss until the month of June. Elder has allowed two runs or less in seven of his first ten home spots.

Arizona vs Atlanta Trends

Arizona is 52-42 against the spread this season, with a 42-46-6 O/U record. Atlanta is 47-45 ATS this year, with a 49-40-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Atlanta will be looking to put the Chicago series behind them here, and I believe they come out sharp here in Game one. The Braves were the hottest team in the league prior to the unseen setback against the Sox, and they’re in a good spot to bounce back Tuesday. Arizona’s spiral this month isn’t what we’d like to see from them after comPeting well through the first half of the season, but this series should be more about the hosts responding to a rough weekend. Atlanta should be able to find production off of a struggling Zach Davies, and I like them taking care of Business in Game one. Back the Braves here, and give the Over a look as well.
